One page that lists every invoice and payment for a customer over a period, with the running balance, so they can see exactly what is still owed.
When to send a statement
Invoices bill one job; a statement summarises the relationship. Send one monthly to clients on credit terms, before chasing an overdue balance, or when a client asks what they owe. It is not a demand for new money: every charge on it should match an invoice they have already received.
Enter the opening balance carried from the previous statement, then each invoice as a charge and each payment received. The balance column updates line by line. From any invoice you can press Turn into: Statement of account to start one.
Questions
Is a statement of account the same as an invoice?
No. An invoice requests payment for specific goods or services. A statement lists invoices and payments over a period and shows the balance.
What is an opening balance?
The amount the customer owed at the start of the statement period, usually the closing balance of the previous statement.
