Receipt maker: a signed payment receipt in a minute
A receipt proves money changed hands. Add what was paid for, how it was paid and who received it, then download or print it.
Receipt or invoice?
An invoice asks for payment; a receipt confirms you have been paid. If a client paid on the spot you usually only need the receipt. If you invoiced first, issue a receipt when the money arrives, or mark the invoice paid. From any invoice in Invoice Studio you can press Turn into: Receipt.
Why keep receipts
The IRS lists receipts, deposit information and invoices among the gross-receipt records a business should keep, and a buyer needs them to support deductible expenses. A clear receipt with a reference number and payment method saves an argument later.
Need something more specific? Use the sales receipt for itemised shop sales, the cash receipt for signed cash handovers, the rent receipt for tenants, or the donation receipt for charities.
Questions
What should a payment receipt include?
The seller’s name, a receipt number, the date, who paid, what for, the amount and currency, the payment method and, ideally, a signature of the person who received the money.
Is a receipt generated online legally valid?
A receipt is evidence of payment, not a special legal form. A clear, accurate receipt you issue yourself is as valid as a printed book receipt in most countries. Some countries have extra rules (for example stamp duty or fiscal receipts for shops), so check locally.
Can I email the receipt?
Yes. Download the PDF and attach it to an email, or print it and hand it over.
